Daily Itinerary (Fully Customizable)
Day 1 Hotel Costa del Sol Picoaga Cusco, Peru
You will be greeted at the airport in Cusco and transferred to your hotel for the night. This afternoon you will have a city tour of the nearby ruins, visiting the Korikancha or Temple of the Sun and the Cathedral, continuing from there to the nearby ruins of Tambomachay (Inca fountains), Puca-Pucara (the Red Fortress), Kenko (sacred site) and finally Sacsahuaman Fortress.
Day 2 Hotel Pakaritampu Urubamba (Sacred Valley), Peru
After breakfast in the hotel we will visit Pisac, famous for its Mass and market. The Mass is attended by the 'mayors' of the neighboring villages, complete in typical dress and carrying their traditional 'varayoc' or staff of office. You will also enjoy the colorful Indian market. In the afternoon you will tour the remarkable Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo with its magnificent mountain stairway. Among other things, you will be intrigued by six enormous pink stones, each weighing some 50 tons. These came from the other side of the river, but nobody knows how they were transported, since the Incas did not use the wheel.
Day 3 Hotel Hatuchay Towers Aguas Calientes, Peru
This morning you will have a transfer to the Ollanta station to take the train to the fabulous mountaintop citadel of Machu Picchu. Upon arrival there will be a guided tour of the ruins. Immerse yourself in the mystical surroundings. Lunch is included in today's excursion. Note: You are only allowed to carry one small backpack to the ruins in Machu Picchu (don't forget to bring your passport, camera, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, light jacket and a lot of fun).
Day 4 Hotel Costa del Sol Picoaga Cusco, Peru
After breakfast at the hotel, you will take a morning tour to the Koricancha or Temple of the Sun, and the narrow streets of San Blas district, the typical Indian walls of Hantunrumiyoc and seven Culebras, the stone with 12 corners, the Cathedral and the Archaeology Museum containing mummies, textiles and jewelry. Overnight in Cusco.
Day 5 Explorama Lodge Amazon River, Peru
Flight to Lima and connection to Iquitos.  Once in Iquitos you will have a brief city orientation and transfer to the Explorama dock for your 25-mile journey down the Amazon River to Yanamono Stream where the Explorama Lodge is located.  This afternoon you will take a hike along the "Lake trail" through lowland rainforest. Tonight choose either a walk or an open boat ride to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest and stars of the Southern sky.
Day 6 Explorama Lodge Amazon River, Peru
Early morning birding excursion along the "Bushmaster Trail", where scientific studies by the Missouri Botanical Gardens have found the world's highest biodiversity of trees per square hectare. Continue on to a small village of Yagua Indians where your guide will explain their culture and how it has been affected by the passing of time. There will be an opportunity to trade for or purchase some of their local crafts and for a demonstration of the use of the blowgun which some of the Yagua elders still use for hunting. Afternoon boating excursion in search of sloth, found in Cecropia trees by the water, and the two species of freshwater river dolphin, pink and grey, found in Amazonian waters.
Day 7 Explorama Lodge Amazon River, Peru
Early morning departure from the Lodge by boat to the mouth of the Napo River where in 1542, the intrepid explorer Francisco de Orellano, became the first European to discover the Amazon River. Continue on the Napo River to ExplorNapo Lodge for breakfast. Hike to the spectacular Canopy Walkway spanning over 500 meters (1/3 of a mile), connected by tree platforms, and reaching a height of over 35 meters (115 feet) but accessible without any type of climbing skill or equipment. After lunch, visit the "ReNuPeRu" Ethnobotanical Garden where over 240 medicinal plants are cultivated by a local shaman who will explain the nature of Amazonian natural healing and the uses of some of the plants. Return to Explorama Lodge to relax in the hammock house or at the Tahuampa Bar before dinner.
Day 8
After breakfast you will have a free morning until your transfer to the airport in Iquitos, either for your flight back to Lima or to continue your vacation.
